Correctional services reduced using consultants by more than 80% over the past four years.

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has reduced the use of consultants by more than 80% over the past four years.

During the 2009/10 financial year, DCS contracted 204 consultants. As at 1st April 2013, 33 consultants were appointed thus achieving an 83,82% reduction in the use of consultants.

Correctional Services acting National Commissioner, Ms. Nontsikelelo Jolingana, said the Department is working closely with the Office of the Auditor-General (AG) to ensure improved financial management. “As stated by the AG, progress by DCS is noted in the implementation of controls that are able to prevent, or detect and correct, misstatements/control deviations/instances of non-compliance. However, improvement is still required. To this end, we are working closely with the Office of the AG, our management team and other stakeholders to ensure better financial management. As DCS, we remain committed to ensuring compliance with related legal frameworks and regulations,” said Ms. Jolingana.
