Joint intelligence driven operation leads to arrest of robbery suspect at Reunion Beach, Isipingo

Yesterday, 5 January 2014 a joint intelligence driven operation by Durban Flying Squad and Berea detective led to the arrest of one of their most wanted suspect at Reunion Beach, Isipingo area. The suspect (37) was wanted for house robbery, housebreaking and theft by false pretences. These cases were reported at Berea, Sydenham and Isipingo police stations. He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 7 January 2014.

On 3 December 2013 at approximately 18:30 the victim was with his wife at their home at Chancellor Avenue in Mayville area when they were approached by three armed suspects. At gunpoint the suspects allegedly demanded cash and jewellery from the victims. They took jewellery, lap top, cellphone, TV set and cash before they fled the scene in complainant’s BMW vehicle. A case of house robbery was opened at Mayville police station. In another case of theft by false pretences that was opened at Berea police station, it is alleged that the victim deposited an amount of R645 000 to the suspect’s account on different dates for a business that was on sale.

Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni is delighted with the arrest of the suspect. The members will work around the clock to try and link him to other house robbery cases that were reported in the Greater Durban area. She encouraged the community to work together with the police in the fight against crime by reporting criminal activities to the police.
