889 suspects arrested for various crimes in 5 day crime fighting operations in North West

The North West police arrested a total of 889 suspects through various operations in the past seven days between 26 January and 02 February 2014 for Contact, Contact related, Property related and other crimes.

The arrests include 5 for Murder, 35 for Rape, 209 for Assault common as well as Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, 43 for burglary residential, 15 for robbery Aggravating, 21 for shoplifting, 46 for driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, 68 for Drug related crimes, 19 for Possession of suspected stolen goods and many other crimes.

The following were also seized during operations: 5 cell phones, a computer, 28 car parts/accessories, 11 knives. Most of the suspects have already appeared in various courts while others are expected to appear on Monday, 3 February 2014.

MMAKAU: Police in Mmakau have arrested a 49 year-old suspect for allegedly raping his 74 year -old mother at Mapetla Township in Mmakau on 30 January 2014. It is alleged that the victim was asleep when her son entered her bedroom. The victim informed her sister who alerted the police. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination where rape was confirmed. The suspect will appear in the Garankuwa Magistrate’s on 7 February 2014 for bail application. Investigations continue

SANNIESHOF: Police in Sannieshof have arrested a 24 year- old suspect for allegedly raping his 18 year old cousin at Wesselsdal farm in Sannieshof. It is further alleged that the victim went to sleep after watching television with her mother and cousin when she was awakened by the suspect raping her. The incident was reported to the police and the victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination where rape was confirmed. The suspect will appear in the Delareyville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 3 February 2014 on charges of rape. Investigations continue

JOUBERTON: Jouberton police have arrested a 24 year -old and a 42 year -old suspects respectively on Saturday, 1 February 2014 on allegations of murdering a 26 year -old victim at Extension 22 in Jouberton. It is alleged that the deceased and the suspects fought over liquor when a fight broke out. The suspects allegedly stabbed the victim several times with a screw driver on his head.

Medical services were summoned to the scene and on arrival the victim was certified dead. The suspect will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court on Monday, 3 February on charges of murder. Investigations continue.
