Somalian national arrested for house robbery in Kensington

On Wednesday 11 June 2014 at about 14:00, Kensington police arrested a Somalian suspect after committing a house robbery in Acre Road, Kensington.

Earlier in the day, the male complainant was asked by two Somalian nationals driving a white Corsa LDV, concerning the buying of cigarettes. The suspects left the premises, but at around 14:00 the Somalian driver returned with three unknown males. Two of the males entered the premises of the complainant and when they entered the home, they grabbed him trying to tie his hands with cable ties.

The complainant fought back and the suspects assaulted the victim in the face with a firearm. The suspects also pepper sprayed him and loaded boxes of cigarettes on the Corsa LDV and took the complainant’s Samsung cellular phone and wallet.

In the meantime, the wife of the complainant who witnessed the scuffle alerted the police, which responded within minutes. The SAPS members managed to arrest one Somalian suspect, while the other suspects fled the scene. The members also found the complainant’s cellular phone and wallet in the arrested suspect’s possession. The vehicle that was used to commit the crime was still in the driveway, still loaded with seven boxes of cigarettes. The SAPS members also seized the firearm used during the robbery.

A criminal case of House Robbery was opened for investigation, and the suspect is due to appear in court soon on the said charge.
