Swift response by Police after business robbery lead to the arrest of seven armed robbers

Today, 01 June 2014, an armed robbery occurred at a shopping centre in Lavis Drive, Bishop Lavis. A group of armed men then fled the scene in a maroon LDV. A chase ensued between the Bishop Lavis police (who called for back-up from other police stations) and a chase ensued for the suspects through different areas including, Ravensmead, Parow and Goodwood.

Several shots were exchanged between the SAPS and the suspects after which the suspects abandoned the vehicle in Jan Van Riebeek Drive, Parow. Seven suspects was arrested and one suspect was found deceased in the back of the LDV. Four of the suspects was wounded and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where they are under Police guard. Five firearms were recovered on the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash believed to have been taken from the store.

Cases of armed robbery, attempted murder, inquest, malicious damage to property and possession of illegal fire arms and ammunition was opened for investigation.

The arrested suspects are due to appear in Court once they have been discharged from hospital and charged on the mentioned cases. Western Cape SAPS Management commended all members involved for the arrest and the confiscation of the firearms and the recovery of the cash.
