Six schoolchildren arrested after vandalism and theft at school in Eastern Cape
Six school children, 11 and 12 years-of-age, appeared in the Alexandria Magistrates’ Court, Eastern Cape on Thursday on charges of housebreaking and theft resulting from vandalism incidents which took place at a local school over two days last week.
Of the 22 children identified, only one actually attended the school where almost every classroom was trashed, walls covered in paint, books and stationery thrown on the floor, graffiti written on doors and taps left open. Items were also stolen.
Some of the children involved were under the age of 10 and criminal proceedings were, therefore, not instituted against them. The case has been postponed to 20 January 2015.
