Jeep Team’s Rebello secures podium finish at RECM Knysna 200 mountain bike race

Dylan-Rebello-climb-cJeep Team athlete and former Junior African cross-country champion and double junior national half-marathon champion, Dylan Rebello (20), fought fiercely for a podium finish during the three-day RECM Knysna 200 mountain bike stage race, eventually claiming 2nd overall behind Nico Pfitzenmaier in 1st and Nelson Sibale in 3rd place.

Rebello, a Knysna local, had proved his class on home soil taking the stage 2 victory ahead of Pfitzenmaier in second and Jan Hanekom in third. However, Rebello’s result was not enough to unseat Pfitzenmaier’s overall lead from day 1, with Rebello going into Monday’s stage 3 in second overall.

The final stage began at Harkerville Forestry Station, with the 58-km route taking riders from Kraanshoek’s breathtaking sea views, through  the famous Harkerville single track, and  finally heading back to the finish line at Knysna via Brakenhill Falls.

Rebello and Pfitzenmaier were the race leaders throughout the stage, until 30m from the finish line when Rebello slipped and fell on the last corner. Showing true sportsmanship, Pfitzenmaier stopped to give him a hand, and the duo crossed the finish line together, with Pfitzenmaier’s winning time on Stage 1, securing the victory.
