Smartphone thief arrested by security company after tracing iPhone App
A suspect was swiftly apprehended and arrested this morning shortly after an iPhone was stolen from a car in Durban North.
The car window was smashed and the phone removed during the few minutes while the motorist dropped his son off inside a pre-school.
With the help of fellow-parents and the school’s staff, the owner of the phone managed to enable the iPhone’s App and started tracking the phone.
A call was also made to the Marshall Security control room and our reaction officers quickly responded.
The phone’s tracking details were also relayed to our members and it revealed that the phone was in the vicinity of the M4 near the bridge on Blue Lagoon.
Our reaction officers spotted the suspect walking over the bridge and apprehended and arrested him – and the iPhone was recovered.
The suspect was handed over to the SAPS Durban North Police Station and charged with theft out of a motor vehicle.
