Suspects arrested after tip-off about stock theft in Eastern Cape

Two suspects appeared before De Aar magistrate court on 28/12/2015 on a charge of stock theft.  Both Charles Vaas (35) years and Nico Pietersen (20) from de Aar were arrested by the De Aar  police together with the Stock theft unit of De Aar in the afternoon of the 25-12-2015 at about 13:50. The arrest was effected after the police got a tipped-off regarding suspected stolen sheep. The police prompt response led to the recovery of 27 Doper sheep to the value of R46 800-00  at the grave yard of Nonzwakazi location in De Aar.  The sheep were reported stolen from Hartebeeshoek farm, situated approximately 15 km outside De Aar. The case is remanded till the 04-01-2016 for formal bail application both suspects remain in custody.

De Aar Cluster Commander Brigadier Nomahlubi Sofika, commended the community members for sharing information that led to the recovery of the reported stolen sheep and also the arrest of the suspects. She urged the community to continue to work together with the police in the fight against crime. “Fighting crime begins with the involvement of the community members” she said.  .
