Western Cape: A 57-year-old man was stopped in his tracks yesterday, 30 May 2016, when he tried to bring drugs into the Mother City.

Police members attached to the Cape Town Cluster Crime Prevention unit received information about a transport truck on the N1 freeway which was alleged to be carrying large amounts of dagga. At 13:45, the police members pulled over the transport company truck on the Huguenot bridge close to the Toll gate exit in the direction of Cape Town. A search of the truck revealed a hidden compartment in the chassis. This compartment was made of wood and fitted onto the undercarriage of the truck. The compartment was searched as well as the cargo hold of the truck and 25 large bags containing dagga were found hidden in these areas.

The dagga, weighing 774 kg and worth an estimated street value of R3.8 million, was seized. The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, on charges of dealing in drugs.
