Two men were seriously injured this afternoon when a taxi and truck collided head-on at the Victoria Embankment in Durban Central.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 15h45 and found the wrecked taxi in the middle of the road. the truck had parked on the side of the road a short distance away.

On assessment, paramedics found that two men lay trapped inside the front of the vehicle. Both men were found to be in a serious condition.

Rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free both men in a 30 minute operation.

Once freed, both patients were treated and transported to nearby hospitals including Addington Hospital.

It is believed that the taxi veered across the centre medium, colliding head-on with the truck. Fortunately, the driver of the truck escaped without injury.
