Local Olympian helps Coca-Cola spread gold feelings ahead of Rio 2016

Coca-Cola is proud to announce the appointment of South Africa’s golden boy, Chad le Clos for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, which is taking place from the 5th to the 21st of August 2016. The iconic brand, which has supported the Olympic Games since 1928, will continue to bring gold moments to people around the world, maintaining the longest continuous relationship with the Olympic movement to date.

Ever since he came into the limelight in the 200m butterfly at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Chad le Clos has had an irrefutable and excellent track record at the Olympics. He will be joining athletes from around the globe, including Michelle Jenneke from Australia and Jodie Williams from England, as the athletes featured in the Coca-Cola #ThatsGold campaign.

“I am proud to be associated with an iconic brand like Coca-Cola for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Representing South Africa on the world’s stage is one of the highlights of my career,” says le Clos. “Together with Coca-Cola, I want to show people that ‘gold moments’ are everywhere, not just on the medal podium.”

Coca-Cola will not only refresh Olympic athletes, officials and spectators with its beverages during the upcoming summer Olympics, but they are also engaging teens by empowering them to express that anyone can have a “gold moment” through the hashtag #ThatsGold.

“Chad is an extraordinary young man with a promising career that continues to flourish in leaps and bounds. As Coca-Cola, we are proud to associate ourselves with such talent,” says Sharon Keith, Coca-Cola’s Marketing Director.

With the eyes of the world on the Olympic Games and Chad’s eyes on a potential gold medal, Coca-Cola will be a part of it all, bringing you the gold moments as they happen.

Consumers will also stand a chance to win one of four double trips to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, plus exclusive headphones and airtime through the on-pack entry mechanic with the unique code under the gold cap or pull tab, now #ThatsGold!
