House robbery suspects arrested in Balmoral Drive, Durban North

Marshall Security received a call from a client shortly before 02:00 on Saturday stating that he could see three suspects on his property in Balmoral Drive, Durban North, in the act of forcing entry to his home.

Armed reaction officers were immediately dispatched. On further investigation three armed suspects were found to be on the property, having damaged a window and in the act of forcing entry into the home. A scuffle broke out between the suspects, armed with garden tools believed to be stolen, and our reaction officer, resulting in the reaction officer being assaulted by one of the suspects with a garden spade. A call for backup was made and all available vehicles in the area responded to the scene.

The suspects were found fleeing down the road and a foot chase ensued with our officers managing to apprehend and arrest them. On arrest one of the suspects attempted to stab our reaction officer, who in self-defence, fired a shot striking the suspect in the leg.

The assistance of Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners was called for by the Marshall Security control room and the man was attended to on scene before being taken under police guard to a nearby hospital for further care.

The scene was later handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.

It is believed the three men were involved in a theft out of motor vehicle in the Durban North area earlier in the evening and are linked to various crimes in the area of late.
