2 guards injured after being robbed while traveling in a cash van

Two security guards traveling in a cash van on the  R71 in the Letsitele area were injured last night during an armed robbery.

It is understood that an unconfirmed number of suspects opened fire on them as well as one other colleague.

They were also apparently pulled out of the vehicle before the suspects allegedly put explosives under the cash van.

Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics found a badly damaged vehicle. Authorities were on scene. The guards were assessed and paramedics found that one had been shot. He also sustained shrapnel injuries. Another guard had also sustained shrapnel injuries. They were treated and transported to hospital for further medical care. The third guard had no visible signs of injury but was taken to hospital for assessment as a precaution.
