Mutual & Federal announces two key appointments to their Executive team

Mutual & Federal is pleased to announce two key appointments to their Executive team. Hennie Nortje and Franklin Sibanda have been appointed as Executive Head: Claims Centre of Excellence (South Africa and Africa) and Executive Head: Africa Centre of Excellence respectively. Nortje will join Mutual & Federal in February 2017 while Sibanda starts his new role in December 2016.

Nortje joins Mutual & Federal from MCIS Insurance, Malaysia, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sanlam Group. He was Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the turnaround strategy of the Life business. Prior to this, Nortje spent eight years as a member of Santam’s Group Executive with the accountability for Claims and all Personal Lines and Commercial Lines servicing. In this role, it is widely acknowledged that Hennie was instrumental in developing the leading Claims Operations in South Africa.  He is well known for developing winning strategies augmented by strong delivery and holds a Masters in Accounting Sciences Degree from the University of Pretoria.

Franklin Sibanda joins Mutual & Federal from Santam, where he held the position of Niche – Africa Business Development Manager. In this role, he was responsible for establishing new specialist insurance channels, systems and processes across sub-Saharan Africa. He represented Santam at NEPAD and other South African Business Forums. Prior to this, Franklin was an entrepreneur that established and ran his own business. Sibanda’s previous roles include client manager at Swiss Re Africa Limited, where he was responsible for establishing optimal re-insurance structures across a number of Africa countries. He has completed an Advanced Management Programme at Wits and a number of insurance and re-insurance courses.

Sibanda’s wide Africa network, deal structuring and entrepreneurial skills will aid Mutual & Federal in supporting Old Mutual Emerging Markets in becoming the leading Pan-African insurer. “These two appointments are testimony to the incredible opportunity Mutual & Federal has as a member of the Old Mutual Emerging Markets team, to build the leading and most trusted general insurance business in Africa,” commented Raimund Snyders, CEO of Mutual & Federal.
