Business robbery suspects arrested at Tzaneen

A joint special intelligence driven operation comprising of Crime Intelligence Unit, the Provincial Tracking Team, the Provincial General Detectives, the Tzaneen Cluster First Responders, the Tactical Response Team and Air Wing made a major breakthrough after they intercepted a group of criminals who were going to commit a business robbery in Tzaneen.

Following information, this Teams of SAPS members have spotted a Mercedes Benz sedan along the road outside Tzaneen and when they attempted to stop it, it sped off and the occupants started shooting at the Police and a high speed chase ensued until the suspects lost control of their vehicle and it went off the road.

Six suspects aged between 28 and 38 years old, were arrested while being trapped inside their vehicle and the following were recovered:

Two (2) 9 mm firearms
2 Magazines and 2 rounds
A cell phone signal jamming device
One 6 channel radio
Mercedes Benz sedan
Audi sedan

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the AUDI was stolen in Ivory Park in the Gauteng Province and the chassis number of the Mercedes Benz was altered.

The suspects were found to be from Sekororo ,Lenyenye and Tickyline outside Tzaneen, Tembisa in Gauteng and one from Swaziland.

They will be facing various charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of cell phone jamming device, possession of stolen motor vehicles and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba commended the exceptional performance by these teams and encouraged them to double their efforts until all streets are cleaned from any criminality.

The suspects will appear before Tzaneen Magistrate Court soon and Police investigations are still continuing. #CrimeMustFall#SaferCommunities
