Two-wheeled action at the Rand Show 2017

If you like your adrenaline rush to come on two wheels, then the Rand Show 2017 has some great entertainment in store for you this Easter holiday, with FMX and Foot-up Trials motorbike stunt shows, plus a display of superbikes, modern classic bikes and customised choppers and “Bobbers”.

TOP FMX RIDERS DEFY GRAVITY IN NEW SHOW

Daredevil FMX riders Nick de Wit, Dallan Goldman and Scotty Billett will be taking on gravity in their new stunt show, “Gravity Clash”.

In the world of freestyle motocross, the backflip is a trick so difficult it has only been mastered by a handful of riders across the globe … Red Bull freestyle motocross rider Nick de Wit is one of them. Acknowledged as one of the best FMX riders in the world, “Sick Nick” will be tackling this legendary trick in the Rand Show’s new Action Zone.

He’ll be joined by Jungle Rush and Bounce FMX athletes Dallan Goldman, the first SA rider to flip a 450cc bike over a 23m gap, and Scotty Billett, an up-and-coming Joburg rider with a background in off-road and MX racing and the youngest rider in SA to jump FMX.

Nick and his daredevil crew will power their 100 kg motorcycles 10 metres into the air in a showcase of death-defying tricks, such as tsunamis, cliff hangers, heart attacks, Superman … and of course, that legendary backflip. They’ll also perform motorcycle trains, where they’ll see how close they can get to each other while airborne.

FEATS OF DARING ON TWO WHEELS

In addition to “Gravity Clash”, the Action Zone presents multiple national Foot-up Trials champion and Red Bull athlete Brian Capper, who’ll be giving Rand Show visitors a taste of his expert motorcycle manipulation skills.

Brian’s show, Xtreme Riding Exhibition, is an action-packed Foot-up Trials riding show where he attacks a series of seemingly impossible obstacles on his specialised 300cc trial motorbike.

He’ll tackle three-metre-high verticals, perform 25m-long front-end wheelies and jump daunting gaps. There’ll also be bunny hops, insane trick riding, and feats of balance and daring.

SOMETHING A LITTLE TAMER

Littlies who’ve been inspired by the big boys on their big bikes can strap on a helmet and grab a Strider Balance Bike at the Strider Adventure Zone, where they can tackle unique terrains and kid-sized ramps and obstacles.

This safe and friendly environment encourages children as young as 18 months to explore mobility on two wheels, improving their bike-handling skills and developing balance, control, motor skills and confidence.

ICONIC BIKES ON ROUTE 66

Come and enjoy the buzz in Hall 5, where the Rand Show will recreate the sights and sounds of the iconic Route 66, the “main street of America”, now famous as a tourist destination, with its run-down diners, gas stations and repair shops. Enjoy the buzz of the classic road trip.

Bike enthusiasts will get a kick out of a selection of superbike classics from the 1980s, as well as modern classic Indian V-Twin bikes and classic cafe racers that will be on the show. There’ll also be hand-built ape-hanger choppers, and customised “bobbers”, which are based on Harley-Davidson frames, but which run big fat wheels and have no mudguards, pre-dating the chopper look.

All these attractions on two wheels are but a small taste of the great lineup of top-class entertainment at this year’s Rand Show. South Africa’s biggest consumer expo is the only show to offer attractions covering everything from sport, motoring, military, and science and technology, to design, animals, gardening, health and beauty, and variety shows … there’s an entire day out for the whole family packed into each Rand Show ticket.
