Allianz and SOS Children’s Villages International launch Emergency Preparedness program

  • Allianz employees run 1.37 million kilometers at the 2nd Allianz World Run
  • Allianz runners raise 500,000 euros in donations for SOS Children’s Villages International
  • 10 children’s villages will receive emergency packages for immediate aid and protection in case of a catastrophe

Allianz employees have raised 500,000 euros for SOS Children’s Villages International as part of a fundraising drive that saw Allianz runners cover 1.37 million kilometers. The donation kicks off the Joint Emergency Preparedness program as part of the global partnership between Allianz and SOS Children’s Villages International. The second Allianz World Run saw over 10,000 employees from 55 countries track their running activities over 90 days.

The joint initiative aims to provide SOS Children’s Villages customized Emergency Preparedness packages based on a thorough analysis of risks specific to each location. The packages supply immediate aid and support to those affected by catastrophes. Allianz was able to apply its risk management expertise to the project.

As part of the 2017 Allianz World Run, the ten Children’s Villages in Bangladesh, Ecuador, Mali, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, and Ukraine will be provided with such tailor-made rescue packages. These include equipment like tents, boats, food, water treatment gear, and medical supplies.

“I am proud that our Allianz employees supported the World Run once again with so much dedication and athletic ambition,” stated Oliver Bäte, CEO of Allianz SE. “It was amazing to see people lace up their shoes literally run out the office after work, sometimes alone, sometimes in groups. They were motivated and wanted to get directly involved. Protecting Children’s Villages from risks, like the consequences of climate change, is something Allianz employees take personally.”

Norbert Meder, CEO SOS Children’s Villages International, declared, “The global partnership with Allianz will help us reach our most important goal: giving the children and youth in the SOS Children’s Villages a safe and caring home. We are very pleased to welcome one of the participants of this year’s Allianz World Run to the SOS Children’s Village in Quito, Ecuador in September so that we can show first-hand just how much your donations have contributed to our projects.”

All in all, over 20,000 Allianz employees have covered almost 3 million kilometers during the Allianz World Run 2016 and 2017, raising 1.1 million euros in donations. Allianz holds the world record for the “longest cumulative run (90 days, one team).”
