3rd ICPCN Conference to hosting first screening in South Africa of powerful Biographic Film of Dr MR Rajagopal
The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) is excited to announce that their upcoming conference taking place at the Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel, Durban from 31 May – 2 June will host the very first screening of ‘Hippocratic – 18 experiments in gently shaking the world’ in South Africa. They also have the wonderful honour of hosting the subject of this film and 2018 Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr MR Rajagopal, as a keynote speaker.
Hippocratic – 18 experiments in gently shaking the world is an intimate, uplifting story about one of the world’s unparalleled humanitarian physicians, Dr MR Rajagopal. Referred to as the “father of palliative care in India” by the New York Times, Dr Raj is a celebrated global health success story, considered by many of his peers as a spiritual leader of ethical medicine, a recipient of the Human Rights Watch Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism and a 2018 Nobel Peace Prize nominee.
This powerful biographical film, narrated by renowned British actor David Suchet CBE, explores the story of an extraordinary global health leader whose mission is to bring ethical practice to modern medicine through whole-person care and universal access to essential, but heavily restricted, pain medicines.
Hippocratic draws on the timeless wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi and the profound insights generated by Dr Raj’s own lived experiences. It reveals the challenges of delivering health care in low-resource settings, the tragedy of unnecessary suffering, but also the opportunity and empowerment of delivering ethical, whole-person care through a grassroots movement.
