Fulvisomes: A quiet revolution in the wellness industry

Cape Town, 10 July 2019 – Lack of absorption has long been a valid criticism against the supplement industry with many a doctor saying that vitamins do nothing but create expensive urine. Liposomal technology has since entered the arena, however, and caused a quiet revolution with its promise of superior absorption.

Liposomal technology has been used in the medical industry for decades and only recently has this technology been used for dietary and nutritional supplements. Liposomes are microscopic, fatty vesicles, smaller than the width of a strand of hair. They are phospholipids forming single, bi- or multiple layered structures. Liposomes are absorbed by melting into the human cell, since they have an outer layer that is made from the same phospholipids as the cell membrane. The liposome and the cell basically merge like two soap bubbles will merge when they come into contact with each other.

Biochemist, Henry Deale, from Bioteq Natura Laboratories, has taken liposomal technology to another level by creating fulvisomes. “By combining fulvic acid, the transport system used by all living organisms to facilitate the absorption of nutrients, with liposomes that are smaller and more stable than anything that’s been achieved before, we created fulvisomes that increases nutrient absorption remarkably,” he explains. “When it comes to liposomes, the smaller and the more stable the better. Current technologies are able to produce liposomes that are of a rather large particle size-range (131 – 207 nanometers) and can remain stable for 20 days. Our liposomes are only 7 nanometers in size and proven to be stable for up to 5 years.”

This cutting edge absorption technology has been used in a range of products by Oshun Health. “The fulvisome delivery system of our products is currently unrivalled worldwide and has the ability to make even nutrients like Vitamin C and curcumin that are notoriously difficult to absorb, highly absorbable. This technology truly places Oshun Health’s products in a league of their own,” explains founder of Oshun Health, Mariette Marais.
Vitamin C has been punted as essential to support a healthy immune system, but what many people don’t know is that it is also crucial for collagen production for healthier skin, muscles and joints. Many people have difficulty tolerating large doses of Vitamin C, however, liposomal delivery prevents Oshun Health’s Vitamin C from coming into direct contact with the stomach, thereby preventing intestinal discomfort even when taken in high doses. Through liposomal technology the nutrient is absorbed directly into the cell.
“Liposomal absorption is very different from intestinal absorption, as most nutrients and drugs are molecules that are too large to be absorbed by the body,” explains Marais. “The most common way for food to be absorbed is for the nutritional molecules to be broken down to a size where they can slip between the stomach and intestinal cell walls and enter the bloodstream. The liver and other organs then reassemble the molecules.”

Fulvisome technology has also been used to create Oshun Health’s Curcumin Boost, which helps to reduce chronic inflammation, boost the body’s antioxidant systems, and improve cognitive functioning. “Oshun Health’s Curcumin Boost utilizes a super concentrated extract of turmeric root, formulated with a cutting-edge nutrient delivery system, to create an elixir of unmatched bioavailability and potency,” says Marais. Turmeric’s potent curcuminoids are not easily absorbed by the digestive system, but with our technology we’ve achieved 100% absorption.
