Five suspects arrested after Intelligent Driven Sting Operation for the murder of a farmer in Malalane

Four men aged between 25 and 34, together with a 24-year-old woman were arrested in the early hours of this morning in Matsulu outside Nelspruit in connection with the murder of a farmer, Riaan Jakobus Van Der Berg at Malalane.

The success was as a result of an Intelligent Driven Sting Operation conducted yesterday at 21:30 until this morning at 02:00. The suspects were traced to their respective homes and arrested.

Mr Van Der Berg was found murdered on Friday morning, 30 May 2014, in his house with his hands still bound and a rope on his neck. The suspects allegedly fled the scene with his silver Nissan Hardbody, a television, tumble dryer, a home theatre system and a cellphone.

All the suspects will appear before the Malalane Periodical Court tomorrow (Wednesday), 03 June 2014, on charges of murder and house robbery.

The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela has commended the members that were involved in the sting operation for a job well-done and for the swift arrest of the suspects. “This is the kind of dedication that we want to see in our organisation. I hope that other members can take cue from this team so that we can swiftly deal with any form of crime in our province”, Lt Gen Ntobela said. He also thanked the community and Bosses Community Justice for their continuous assistance and information which secured the arrest of these suspects.
