Illegal Electricity Connection Blamed For Fire in Verulam
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to an informal settlement in Canelands – Verulam after receiving several calls from the public reporting a shack on fire.
Upon arrival Reaction Officers established that residents within the informal settlement managed to extinguish the blaze. The inside of the shack was extensively damaged.
Residents reported that the owner of the shack was at work when they noticed smoke emanating from inside the dwelling. They broke down the door and noticed that the inside of the shack was already engulfed in flames. With buckets of water they managed to bring the fire under control.
An illegal electricity connection is suspected of being the cause of the fire however this could not be confirmed.
