Eight men arrested for business robbery in Milnerton

Responsive investigations by detectives from Milnerton SAPS brought eight perpetrators to book on Wednesday, 7 March 2018, in connection with a Business Robbery perpetrated at 00:45 on 7 March 2018, at a petrol station in Milnerton. According to reports a White Toyota Quantum entered the garage forecourt to fill up with petrol. While attending to the Toyota Quantum the petrol attendant got a surprise when one of the suspects pointed a firearm at him while others, wearing balaclavas, wielding a big knife and a crowbar threatened him and followed him to the garage shop.

Inside the garage shop seven suspects aged between 24 and 44 years old asked for the safe keys and then removed the safe mounted in the floor.  They fled the scene. Detectives followed up on clues and managed to trace the owner of the Toyota Quantum.  This led the investigation team to the first suspect, who was the driver. Further investigation led to the arrest of seven other suspects, some of whom were arrested while they were grinding the steel safe in Joe Slovo, Milnerton.

The suspects are facing charges of business robbery and possession of stolen property.

The police recovered two steel safes with an undisclosed amount of money, a computer box, a backpack bag with cigarettes and lighters, grinders and two black toy guns.

All suspects are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 9 March 2018.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, praised the members who brought the perpetrators of one of the province’s serious and violent crimes to justice.
