Goat thieves assaulted by community and stolen vehicle recovered in Osindisweni, KZN

Two men were arrested by the public after they stole two goats from a home in Osindeswini near Verulam today (Thursday).

At approximately 17:45 the Reaction Unit South Africa Verulam Operations Center received multiple calls from the public reporting the incident. Upon arrival the Verulam SAPS were were found to be in attendance. One of the suspects was extensively injured after he was assaulted by an angry mob.

The stolen goats were recovered in a Nissan Sentra that was abandoned on scene after it was forcefully stopped by the public. A registration check confirmed that the getaway vehicle was stolen in Phoenix this month. Bystanders managed to apprehend a second suspect a short distance away. Both men were placed under arrest and are currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.

Residents complained that stock theft in the area had drastically increased in recent weeks and believed that the trio were responsible for the thefts.

A search is currently being conducted for the third suspect who fled on foot.
