Fire at a shopping mall located in the Central Umhlanga Business District
On Sunday evening, KZNVIP Emergency Response Teams were dispatched to reports of a fire at a shopping mall located in the Central Umhlanga Business District.
Upon arrival, response teams observed heavy smoke as mall security personnel facilitated the evacuation of shoppers and staff. The area was immediately secured to ensure public safety while fire and emergency teams worked to contain the blaze.
Thanks to the rapid intervention of firefighting crews, the fire was successfully contained and extinguished before it could spread further throughout the mall.
Four individuals were assessed by KZNVIP Medics for smoke inhalation. Two patients required further medical intervention, were stabilized on scene, and transported to a nearby medical facility for continued care.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined. A full investigation is underway to establish the origin and circumstances leading to the incident.
All emergency services, including fire, medical, and law enforcement, were in attendance and remain active in securing the site.
