NWK fuels the spirit of adventure at South African Safari Rally

NWK, South Africa’s oldest agricultural company, is proud to announce its role as the official fuel partner of the inaugural South African Safari Rally – a landmark event marking the first time a round of the prestigious World Rally-Raid Championship will take place on local soil, and indeed, in the southern hemisphere.

Having celebrated its 116th anniversary on 4 May, NWK is deeply rooted in the North West province and its rural communities. For the company, getting involved in the Safari Rally was a natural decision – a unique opportunity to contribute to an international motorsport spectacle taking place right on its doorstep.

“As a business built on values of co-responsibility and community investment, we are thrilled to be part of an event that not only showcases our beautiful region but also gives back to communities along the route,” says Bertus Jacobs, Senior Manager Trade for NWK. “This is more than a rally – it’s a catalyst for hope, tourism, and economic upliftment in areas that face high unemployment and widespread poverty.”

Fuel partnership

NWK will supply 25 000 litres of fuel for the rally’s participating motorcycles and vehicles. In addition, NWK filling stations situated along the route will support participants, crews, and spectators, with extended operating hours and extra staff on hand to ensure smooth, efficient service.

Fuel tankers will be strategically positioned along the route, dispensing an estimated 4 000 litres per day. NWK staff members operating these points have undergone the necessary training and are equipped with specialist safety gear to ensure full compliance with all safety regulations.

NWK will also be supplying 8 000 bottles of purified water, packaged at its in-house water purification facility using recycled plastic. These will be available at refuelling points and other key locations along the rally route. Dedicated bins will be available to promote responsible disposal and recycling of the bottles.

VIP spectator points

NWK will host VIP spectator points during stages 1 to 4 of the rally, offering a front-row seat to selected guests, including valued NWK customers. These areas will be fully serviced with amenities such as mobile toilets and dedicated security.

“We are immensely proud to be part of this international event and extend our best wishes to all competitors, crews and supporters,” says Jacobs. “Recent rains have made for an especially tough route – but that’s Africa for you! It promises to be an unforgettable challenge.”
