MP Learners attend well-resourced Revision Camp
Johannesburg, South Africa – Thursday, 4 July 2019. Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) recently hosted over two-hundred (200) learners, from fifty (50) high schools in the Bohlabela District Municipality, as part of its hugely successful national Winter School Revision Programme.
All learners were placed at the Hoerskool Sybrand Van Niekerk in Sabie, Mpumalanga Province (MP), for the duration of the programme.
The Winter School Revision Programme is part of the “High School Learner Support Programme” run by the National Department of Basic Education. It seeks to promote and improve pass rates in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (known as STEM) subjects. To date, ATNS has sponsored winter schools for Grade 10 to 12 learners in three provinces, namely North West, Free State and Eastern Cape. The company has also provided Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure, as well as Science laboratories in seven provinces.
ATNS partnered with Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Education and specialist Mathematics and Science Tutors. Provincial Departments of Education have always played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth access to schools, especially in rural areas. Local Municipalities, Houses of Traditional Leaders, School Governing Bodies and Learner Support Groups have always accommodated and supported ATNS’s initiatives.
Education is one of ATNS’s Corporate Social Investment focus areas. The company has adopted a social transformation strategy in which education is seen as a fundamental tool in addressing a variety of socio-economic challenges within rural disadvantaged communities.
Mathematics and Science are entry requirement for learners who want to pursue careers in Air Traffic Control. The English language is the medium of instruction in the trade.
