Progress made in overhaul procedures at the at Mikeva Hyper, Mossel Bay

Notable progress is being made in overhaul procedures at the at Mikeva Hyper, Mossel Bay where a structure fire was reported yesterday, 27 May 2025. Firefighting operations continued throughout last night and today.

A crew change has been implemented this afternoon with the officer in charge being Platoon Commander Audrey Gelderblom. The crew will continue with overhaul, damping down and mop up operations throughout the evening. Crews will be relieved by fresh crew members tomorrow morning, 29 May 2025. The crew will continue to monitor the rest of the site for any potential flare ups. South African Police Service remain on site.

A cleaning service provider, appointed by the owner of the building is on scene to control any runoff into the stormwater drains. By Grace private ambulance service and EMS chaplaincy services are standing down from the site, but remain on stand-by. A section of Bill Jeffery Avenue remains closed to ensure safety of the public and emergency crews.
