6 Suspects arrested swiftly after business robbery at Pep Store in Alberton

A quick reaction by the members of the Flying Squad resulted in the arrest of six suspects who robbed Pep Store at Alberton and took a substantial amount of money at about 11:00 today. One of the suspects was arrested at the scene by an employee of the store who was helped by members of the community.

Members of the Flying squad, who were at the scene within few minutes following the robbery, immediately launched a manhunt for other suspects who were believed to be armed. They followed information to Hillbrow where they recovered an old Mazda that was used as a gateway vehicle. Five other suspects were arrested while they were hiding in a flat. They were all linked to the robbery scene. During the arrest police also recovered a pistol with three rounds of ammunition. It is believed that it was the same firearm that was used during an armed robbery. Only three thousand rand (R3000) was recovered.

The suspects are due to appear at the Alberton Magistrates’ Court within 48 hours.
