Those who make our roads safer and flowing more freely deserve our protection!

Pointsmen

There are many working on and next to our roads to make our lives a bit easier. They include the road workers, flagmen, grass cutters and also our pointsmen!

If not for them we would not be able to drive on a smooth road surface with neatly painted roads, we would have poor visibility and more threats from the side of the road and we would be stuck in traffic so much longer!

Our pointsmen are well recognized on our roads – especially after heavy rains or cable theft have rendered our traffic lights ineffective! Too seldom do we express our gratitude to them for their sterling work in helping traffic flow more freely!

It is particularly upsetting when we are informed that they are sworn at , hand gestures made at them or when their physical safety is threatened through lawless road users.

Earlier this week we were informed that Leticia Rametsi, an OUTsurance Pointsmen helping traffic during peak hours on the corner of Beyers Naude Drive and Sundowner, was struck by a taxi and left hospitalised with a fractured skull. The taxi driver was arrested and is charged with driving under the influence. Read Drunk driver hits OUTsurance Pointsmen

This brings to the attention of all of us the risks that these young men and women are facing daily! We need to not only show our gratitude and appreciation but also adjust our driving to make the roads safer for them!
