Southern Cape Police member in court for fraud with travel claims

On Friday, 21 February 2014, The Anti-Corruption Unit of the Hawks in the Southern Cape arrested a 45-year-old Pacaltsdorp police Warrant Officer, for fraud and theft.

Warrant Officer Jantjie is accused of having submitted a fraudulent travel claim to the Pacaltsdorp Police in August last year. He claimed more money than was due to him by the state. The fraud was discovered during a routine station audit after which it was reported to the Hawks for investigation.

Warrant Officer Jantjie appeared in the George Magistrates’ Court immediately after the arrest, and he was warned to be in court again on 11 March 2014.

Warrant Officer Jantjie was suspended from his duties, and internal disciplinary procedures have been instituted against him.

“We cannot have members who are not honest with the employer. Warrant Officer Jantjie has an opportunity to make representations, both criminally and departmentally to prove his innocence” said Western Cape Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Yoliswa Matakata.
