Sol Plaatje Municipality employees arrested with copper cables

Kimberley police are intensifying efforts in order to bring copper cable thieves to book. Today while the police where busy conducting patrols around the West-end suburb in Kimberley, they spotted two Sol Plaatje Municipality employees carrying copper cable wrapped in a plastic bag. The suspects were on their way to sell the cables at the local scrap-yard.

During the investigation at the crime scene the suspects tried to negotiate a deal with the police, in exchange of money, instead of the arrest. However the police refused to be lured with bribery and the suspects were arrested on the spot.

Three suspects aged between 40 and 55 are behind bars charged for possession of copper cables. They are due to appear before the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 29 May 2014.
