Quick reaction by Dundee police led to the arrest of ten suspects who were allegedly involved in a business robbery at a supermarket in Dundee yesterday morning. The suspects aged between 21 and 53 years will appear in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On 26 October 2014 at approximately 09:00 a group of armed men entered the supermarket in Dundee and at gunpoint took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene. Police were immediately alerted and responded to the robbery. While responding to the robbery, they came under fire and the police retaliated. Two police officers were wounded during the shootout. Ten suspects were arrested and five unlicensed firearms were recovered. Two cars, a BMW and a Toyota Double CAB were found abandoned near Mondlo. Four members of the community were also shot and wounded during the shootout.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for the good work that led to the arrest of these suspects as part of our Festive Season operations. “Criminals need to be aware that we have increased our visibility and patrols at malls, shopping centres and other places of interest to ensure that we decrease the space for criminals over this Festive Season,” she said.
