Today at 09:30 a business robbery was foiled due to the quick reaction of the Newcastle K9 Unit, Public Order Police and Newcastle police.

A factory situated on Schonland Street in Newcastle was robbed by four suspects who entered the premises and assaulted their victims. The suspects, aged between 30 and 40, robbed them of cash and cell-phones at gunpoint before fleeing the scene in a white VW Polo vehicle. Police were alerted to the incident and due to their swift response the suspects were arrested a short distance away from the crime scene.

Four pistols, four cell-phones and an undisclosed amount of cash were recovered. The vehicle was impounded since it was used in the commission of a crime; the ownership of the vehicle still needs to be confirmed.

The firearms that were seized will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they were used in the commission of any other crime.

The suspects will be detained at the Newcastle police station and charged for robbery as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition; they will appear in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court soon.
