After nearly 40 years in South Africa, leading logistics provider UTi will be known as DSV with effect from 1 June 2016. The new identity and branding follows the acquisition of UTi by DSV in January 2016. DSV is listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen.

The new DSV has a more diversified geography and business mix, employs more than 40,000 people in more than 80 countries who service thousands of companies from more than 1,000 offices and logistics facilities.

DSV Africa CEO Keith Pienaar: “Our reach is global yet our presence is local and close to our customers. The similarities in the businesses have enabled the integration of the two companies to progress quickly and smoothly. Stronger together, the new DSV offered a number of benefits” he said.

They include:

  • A similar culture, which was performance driven, close to the customer, agile and entrepreneurial
  • Economies of scale as the fourth largest global 3PL operator, with warehousing and logistics solutions on six continents
  • Market leading footprint, particularly in consumer markets and emerging markets
  • Expanded services and solutions by combining UTi’s expertise in Automotive, Healthcare, Energy and its global client base with DSV’s strong IT platform and expertise in the SME market.

DSV CEO, Jens Bjørn Andersen, said in the recent DSV quarterly report to investors that the acquisition of UTi had been a major theme in the first quarter of 2016. “We took over the company at the end of January, and the integration process is ongoing. We have had a good start and the process is proceeding according to plan. It is of the utmost importance that we take good care of our customers during this phase— so far we have been successfully doing that and it is something that we monitor closely.”

With effect from June, operating entities in SA and Africa will change as follows:

  • UTi Freight Forwarding becomes DSV Air & Sea
  • UTi Distribution becomes DSV Distribution
  • UTi Ground Transportation becomes DSV Road
  • UTi Contract Logistics becomes DSV Solutions
  • UTI Mounties becomes DSV Mounties
  • UTi Pharma becomes DSV Healthcare
