It was an epic weekend for Jeep Team athletes across the globe after eight times World Champion, Hank McGregor, bagged the 7th edition of the French Breizh Ocean Race, a World Surfski Series Race in Morbihan, France, on the 22nd and 23rd October.

On local shores, Triathlete star, Michael Lord, successfully defended his title at the Slanghoek Triathlon outside Rawsonville in the Western Cape on Saturday 22nd October, 2016.

McGregor claimed his outstanding victory in a time of 1:04:41, a massive 3 minutes ahead of French athletes, Yannick Laousse (1:07:18) and Noe Pelizza (1:07:26), who battled it out for second and third position in the 16.7 km downwind race in the Bay of Quiberon, France, in freezing conditions and 25-knot winds.

Said a stocked McGregor: “I am super stoked with this win at the Breizh Surfski Race in France after coming second the previous year. I am at peak fitness after the World Champs and Hansa River but mixing up my races up definitely helped. It was absolutely freezing at around 9 degrees, and the wind was howling but this served me very well. I loved every minute of it. As always, in this type of downward race, tactics rule. I am ready for Hong Kong’s Dragon Run in Kowloon from 12-13 November. This International Surfski Championships is a 24km course starting at Clearwater Bay and finishing at Stanley Main Beach.”

Though the weather conditions in Hong Kong in November provide excellent downward paddling conditions, the course will present paddlers with highly technical conditions for the majority of the race, testing the best of the best in the world.

Said Michael Lord: “I gained time in the transition after the 1.3 km swim. The bike course was awesome, starting off with rocky, sandy farm roads in the valley and ending with an amazing traverse along the mountain. The course included some fantastic single-track sections towards the end, proper rocks and really rugged. While the run was flat and sandy, I managed to hold a decent pace to push through to a win.”
