Suspect arrested reportedly shoplifting and targeting other shoppers who apprehended her

A 51 year old woman was apprehended by shoppers at a clothing store on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD after she pickpocketed three woman of their cellphones and cash.

At approximately 16:12 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the store after receiving a call from employees requesting assistance. Upon arrival it was established that the woman had pick pocketed two female shoppers of their cellphones and a third victim of her wallet containing R1000 in cash and her bank cards. The suspect was apprehended after she attempted to steal valuables from a fourth woman’s handbag.

CCTV footage confirmed that the suspect had stolen branded clothing from the store before she targeted the three shoppers. The footage showed the suspect opening the distracted shoppers handbags and removing their valuables. The stolen clothing as well as the items she had stolen from the three woman were handed to two accomplices who had fled the store when the suspect was apprehended.

Reaction Offices placed the Ndwedwe resident under arrest and handed her over to authorities for further investigation.
