Sweetwaters taxi and bakkie collide leaving fifteen injured

Fifteen people were left injured this afternoon after a taxi and bakkie collided on the Dennis Shepstone Road in Sweetwaters, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, arrived on the scene to find both the bakkie and taxi parked in the middle of the road. The occupants of both vehicles were found walking around on the scene.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one man from the bakkie and fourteen passengers from the taxi had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.  The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to Northdale and Edendale Provincial Hospitals for further care.

The driver of the taxi was assessed and found to have sustained minor injuries. Paramedics treated the man but he later refused transportation to a hospital.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
