Maimane Phiri scouts top talent for the Allianz Junior Football Camp in Germany

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) Africa selected top three talented young football players on Friday June 22 at the Allianz Football Tournament held at the Three Square Sports Ground in Alexandra. Kabelo Seopa from Realogile High, Lebogang Dolo from Alexandra High and Tebatso Sekoaleng from Minerva High stand a chance of representing South Africa at the Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC) in Munich, Germany from August 27 – 31, 2018.

Football legend, Maimane Phiri, AGCS Africa Head of Marketing and Communications, Lesiba Sethoga, and independent legal expert, Melvin Neale, Director at MNA Attorneys, selected the three players out of almost 50 from six schools in Alexandra. They will decide on the ultimate winner in July following assessments based on their passion for football, digital technology and future topics.

Realogile High were crowned champions of the tournament following a 1 – 0 win over Alexandra High. Kwabhekilanga High, Eastbank High, and Pholosho Junior Primary schools also took part in the tournament. “The excitement and commitment from the players, coaches and teachers throughout the tournament showed their determination to reach their dreams and as Allianz, we are dedicated to enabling them to reach their goals,” says Thusang Mahlangu, CEO of AGCS Africa.

Maimane Phiri was impressed with their exceptional football skills, tactical awareness and behavior on and off the pitch. “It is rewarding to be part of the #AJFC as it contributes to the development of football in South Africa. The footballers demonstrated teamwork, self-discipline and excellent football skills,” says Phiri.

The South African teenager will join 57 others from 24 nations between the ages of 14 – 16 at the camp, which is now in its 10th year. While there, they will meet FC Bayern stars, be trained by youth coaches and participate in innovation and digital activities beyond football in a packed five day program, hosted by Allianz and FC Bayern.  The young players will also get an opportunity to bid farewell to Bastian Schweinsteiger on August 28 live at the Allianz Arena between FC Bayern and Chicago Fire.
