House robbery suspects nabbed just after committing the crime

On Monday, 9 September 2018, four suspects are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court for four counts of house robbery and illegal possession of firearm.

The suspects’ court appearance follows their arrest on Saturday, 8 September 2018. According to information available at this stage, police in Brits were conducting a visible and routine patrol along the N4 road when they received information about a suspected Toyota Condor that was allegedly used in commission of house robbery in Mmakau. The suspects armed with firearms allegedly entered a house in Mmakau and robbed the occupants of approximately R15 000.00 cash. An unconfirmed number then fled from the scene on foot while others used the Toyota Condor.

The police spotted the vehicle fitting the given description on the R511 near De Wildt with three occupants inside. The vehicle was stopped and the trio were arrested. The police searched for two more suspects and one of them was later arrested and found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigation into the matter continues. Members of the community are urged to avoid keeping a lot of cash with them.
