General Tire backs Team SA at Lifesaving World Champs

South Africa’s top lifesavers will be proudly representing the country at the Lifesaving World Championships in Adelaide, Australia, from 17 November to 2 December 2018, with official backing from General Tire, a brand of Continental.

As the title sponsor of Lifesaving South Africa (LSA), General Tire has extended its support for the youth and open teams competing in the World Championships by helping to cover some of the travel costs for Team SA, as well as providing interactive and prominent multi-media coverage in print, digital, social media and television platforms.

“We are exceptionally proud of the athletes who will be representing South Africa at the World Championships in Australia, and we wish them the best of luck,” said Ian Langlands, General Manager, Sales and Marketing at Continental Tyre SA (CTSA). “It’s a great honour and reward for their dedication and excellence in the competitive side of this sport, as well as in the critical role they play in creating a safer environment along the country’s beaches and waterways all year round.”

The national squad was announced earlier this year, and has completed several training camps in preparation for Australia. The team members were presented with their South African colours recently at a gala awards evening at Serengeti Golf Estate, receiving their blazers from Lifesaving South Africa’s President, Dylan Tommy, as well as Billy Holmes, Regional Sales Manager of CTSA, and acting Chief Executive Officer of SASCOC, Patience Shikwambana.

The Lifesaving World Championships are held every two years, showcasing excellence in surf sports and rescue. It includes ocean and pool events, as well as a simulated emergency response competition, surf boat event and inflatable rescue boat challenge.

South Africa is once again expected to be among the top contenders for the 2018 Lifesaving World Championships, having placed in the top three over the years. New Zealand currently holds the title from the 2016 championships held in The Netherlands , with Australia also recognised as one of the sport’s strongest teams.

General Tire has secured a comprehensive media package for the World Champs, including daily sport editorial in national Independent Newspapers titles, as well as on the IOL Sport digital and social media platforms. This will be supplemented by a dedicated daily update on the Watersports page on Sport24.

Regular updates will also be posted on the General Tire SA Facebook page (www.facebook.com/GeneralTireSA), as well as on the brand’s Instagram and Twitter channels (@generaltire_sa). In addition, two 48-minute highlights packages will be flighted on SuperSport in January 2019.
