BBQ Awards celebrating transformation in South Africa’s Economy

South Africa’s most prestigious and longest running black business awards ceremony, The BBQ Awards, is taking place on Friday, 15 March 2018 at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg. The event will be opened by Minister of Energy, Jeff Radabe, with socialite, Idols judge, and radio personality, Somizi Mhlongo as the Master of Ceremonies. The Awards have, for the past 16 years, celebrated and recognised South Africa’s champions of transformation, with the newest winners in 15 categories, ranging from Hennessy Businessman of the Year Award to the Public Sector Visionary Award set to be announced at the lavish red-carpet event.  

The Awards encourage and promote sustainable black business and transformation through the recognition of good corporate governance leadership and achievement. The finalists and winners will be selected by a panel of independent adjudicators including Bonang Mohale of Business Leadership South Africa; Babalwa Fatyi of Myezo Environmental Management Services (Pty) Ltd; Basetsana Kumalo of Basetsana Woman Investment Holdings Pty Ltd; Xolani Qubeka of Small Business Development Institute; and Oscar Siziba, Absa Managing Executive: Relationship Banking Coverage – Gauteng and Limpopo.

The Awards are open to individuals, black-owned and empowered companies and organisations in South Africa. Notable Award-winners over the past 16 years included:

  • Ledwaba Mazwai Attorneys Public Sector Visionary Award: Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng
  • Transnet Best Employer of the Year Award: PwC
  • Public Sector Visionary Award: Susan Shabangu
  • Kaya FM Transformation Champion of the Year Award: Coega Development Corporation
