Child kidnap threat in Trenance Park

Two robbery suspects threatened to kidnap a baby girl during a robbery on Madrona Drive in Trenance Park – Verulam in KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call from a member of public reporting a woman screaming for assistance. Upon arrival the female explained that as she and her 2 year old granddaughter were walking out of her property when she noticed two unknown men approaching them.

She suspected that they were going to rob her and threw her Alcatel cellphone into a neighbouring property. She attempted to close her driveway gate when one of the suspects drew a knife and his accomplice grabbed the child’s hand. The robbers informed the victim that if she failed to hand over her cellphone they would kidnap the child.

The victim pointed out where she had thrown the cellphone . While one suspect held onto the child his accomplice jumped into the neighbor’s property and retrieved the mobile phone. The victim began screaming for assistance which drew attention from residents in the area. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot. The victim and the child were not injured.

Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the suspects however no arrests were made.
