Three year old child rescued by police, while twelve suspects nabbed for hijacking and possession of dagga estimated value of half a Million

The relentless efforts by the police to fight against the scourge of crime yielded positive results when the Intelligence driven joint operations that were conducted in some parts of the province resulted in the arrest of twelve (12) suspects aged between 22 and 55. The arrests were effected in the Tzaneen, Thohoyandou, Mahwelereng and Groblersdal clusters.

In the Tzaneen Cluster, four (04) suspects aged between 22 and 37 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and car hijacking which occurred in the Thohoyandou policing area on 2019-04-07 at around 21:00.

This follows an incident where a 34-year-old man was opening a gate at his home at Thohoyandou when a group of men appeared from nowhere and forced him and his daughter into their car at gunpoint and drove away with them.

The Police were notified and swiftly responded which resulted in the arrest of these suspects in the Maake Policing area outside Tzaneen. During the arrest, police rescued a three-year-old child and the owner of the hijacked motor vehicle and also confiscated two (02) motor vehicles, firearm and bank cards.

The preliminary Police investigations revealed that the suspects were on a mission to go and commit business robberies in the Tzaneen Cluster and the surrounding areas. Meanwhile in the Groblersdal Cluster, four (04) suspects aged between 24 and 55 were arrested for possession of dagga with the estimated value of R500 000. 00.

It is alleged that on 2019-04-05 at around 10:00, the police were tipped-off about the two motor vehicles that were transporting drugs and they immediately followed the information until the four (04) were apprehended. The other incidents occurred at Zebediela and Marble Hall Policing areas where four (04) suspects were nabbed for business robberies and possession of suspected stolen properties.

The arrested suspects will appear before various magistrate courts soon. The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, applauded the team of Saps members for keeping the streets of Limpopo safe, by ensuring that all these criminals are arrested. Members of the community were as well appreciated for their valuable information that assisted the Police to effect these arrests.
