MEC Kaunda and Nkonyeni intervene in Umzumbe to end week-long protests

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda and MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Peggy Nkonyeni, led the provincial government delegation in Umzumbe Municipality to respond to service delivery challenges.

The community of Ward 5 had complained about the local councillor, lack of clinic and the state of road and housing infrastructure in the area. The intervention by the MECs ended a week-long public protests.

The MECs vowed to return to the area by the end of July with all relevant departments and concrete plans to alleviate the plight of the community.

The Department of Transport has already started with routine road maintenance on D 949. Kaunda also tabled a plan to upgrade D954 and D1099 from gravel to concrete.
