MEC Kaunda engages with Mvutshini Community

In his capacity as the chairperson of the subcommittee on public protests in the province, KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liason, Mxolisi Kaunda convened a community meeting at Mvutshini to provide responses on service delivery challenges the community raised last month.

Amongst issues raised was water supply, housing and road infrastructure. With these complaints, government provided positive feedbacks regarding water supply as water has been restored, with regards to housing the Department of Human Settlements is implementing Phase 3 housing development projects and the Department of Transport has already begin to repair all gravel roads to make them traversable.

MEC Kaunda assured the members of the community that government remains committed to improving their living conditions. “As a caring government we will always be in touch with our communities to alleviate poor living conditions in their lives.”

The MEC also appealed to the public to desist from illegal and violent protests. “The constitution allows people to embark on peaceful protests if they have genuine service delivery challenges. However, the organizers of the protest march must ensure that demonstrations do not result in loss of life and destruction of property,” said Kaunda.
