A successful first edition of the Photo and Video Experience for Messe Frankfurt South Africa

The Photo and Video Experience opened its doors to over 10,100 eager visitors wanting to experience the latest products and technologies available to the market. The highly-anticipated industry showcase attracted all levels of photographers, videographers and imaging enthusiasts to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from 26-28 July.

Visitors who entered the photographic wonderland were wowed by impromptu photoshoots, interactive showcases to illustrate colour in motion, lighting effects, fashion shows by top South African designers and the opportunity to practice action photography as high-speed Lamborghinis activated the race track.

Over 100 brands participated in the showcase, including industry leaders such as Canon, Fujifilm and Sony. Official event retailer, Outdoorphoto made shopping for new equipment a breeze as visitors were able to purchase their goods at the exhibition stand through an app and then continue to enjoy the show. An SMS was received once the product was ready for pick-up at the collection point.

“The feedback received from exhibitors and visitors was extremely positive. We are extremely proud of this event and would like to thank all our sponsors, partners and exhibitors for trusting us to deliver a high-quality industry showcase. The Photo and Video Experience is an inclusive event for anyone and everyone to experience the industry, regardless of whether they own a camera or not and I believe that we have created a platform that will facilitate growth and interest in the industry,“ says Joshua Low, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt South Africa.

The workshops were a big pull for visitors. Some highlights included Michael Tucker’s talk on ‘managing exposure in wildlife photography’, ‘using Instagram to grow your business’ by Jacques Crafford, ‘discussing the basics and how-to of underwater photography’ by Ilse Moore, ‘global mobile photography trends and the evolution of mobile photography’ by Chief Technology Officer of Huawei South Africa – Akhram Mohamed, to name a few.

“Over 40 workshops were presented by local and international industry speakers from ‘tips and tricks of smartphone photography’ as well as ‘landscape and portrait photography – the purpose being to present a comprehensive workshop programme to cater for the smartphone market to the pro-photographer,” adds Low.

International speakers, such as Frank Doorhof from the Netherlands, Natalia Arantseva from India and Charlie Kaufman from the UK, also delivered masterclasses across the 3-day Photo and Video Experience.

For the first time at the all-new Photo and Video Experience, was the 2019 Photo of the Year competition which launched with great success. There were over 150 entrants, the 3 finalists in each category were showcased and the winners were announced at the event on Sunday 28 July.
