Business robbery suspects nabbed and firearms recovered in Northam, Polokwane

POLOKWANE- The police’ concerted efforts and determination to deal with serious crimes, including Trio Crimes, yielded positive results when three suspects were arrested soon after committing a business robbery in Northam yesterday, 03 August 2019.

The G4S Security official entered the local store to collect cash at around 08h56, and was accosted by two gun-wielding suspects. The suspects took his company firearm and instructed the Pep Store staff members to open the business safe. After emptying the safe, both security official and the Staff were locked inside the cash safe. The police were alerted and the available information, including the suspected vehicle was immediately operationalized in the area.

During the operation, which was well coordinated and supported by the community, including the air support from the local businessman, the suspects’ vehicle, a Toyota RunX was spotted in the local RDP settlement area. During an ensuing car chase, two of the suspects were shot and injured, the third was cornered and arrested. The injured were taken to hospital under police guard.

The following were seized during the arrest:
One silver Run X
Three 9 mm pistols
Three magazines, ten (10) rounds of ammunition and twenty (24) four cartridges.
Cash amount of money.

The suspects, aged 21, 27 and 37, will face charges of Attempted Murder, Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and resisting arrest. They will appear in Northam magistrate’s court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has commended all role-players involved in this swift arrest and has extended special thanks to the business community and other communities at large for their support in the fight against crime.

The firearms that have been recovered will be subjected to ballistic investigations to determine if they were in the past, used for the commission of other crimes.
