Five held for dagga consignment

DURBAN – Police officers patrolling along the N3 last night spotted an SUV vehicle on the freeway near the Wembezi turn-off. Police officers pulled over the vehicle which had five occupants and conducted a search of the vehicle.

On inspection, police discovered 56 large parcels of compacted dagga weighing 100 kilograms, in the vehicle. The drugs seized have an estimated street value of R1 million. The suspects were also questioned with regards to the ownership of the vehicle, however, they could not provide police officers with a satisfactory explanation. The vehicle, as well as the dagga, was seized for further investigation.

The arrested suspects, aged between 19 and 29, were charged for possession of dagga. They were also found in possession of R27,000-00 in South African currency as well as 5000 in eSwatini currency. The five men will be appearing at the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession of drugs and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
