Three men bust with firearms and stolen vehicle

DURBAN – Today, police officers conducted an intelligence-driven operation after information was received of a hijacked vehicle spotted on the N3 Freeway.

The suspects were on their way to commit a crime in Ladysmith with a vehicle that was hijacked in Mariannhill two weeks ago. The Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad and K9 Unit police intercepted the vehicle with three occupants in the vicinity of Nottingham Road and a search was conducted.

Police recovered two firearms with 16 rounds of ammunition and a set of gloves inside the vehicle. The occupants were immediately arrested and they were taken to Nottingham Road police station for further investigation.

The suspects aged between 26 and 28 will be charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen property. They will also be linked to the Mariannhill hijacking and will appear in the Howick Magistrates Court soon.
